Could your partner’s political point of view be against your personal values ?

Why is it so difficult to find someone who will finally have a political point of view which is not against your personal values ?

How could we know if we don’t try it out !

They will never tell us anything against our values until they get too comfortable and that is their mistake but your glory. Because the earlier you know the truth the better it is…isn’t ? I believe that my positions are pretty clear and I should not have to justify myself every time. My political point of view is not against any kind of groups but a matter of mutual respect & cultural appreciation. There are two ways in this story and I am sorry in advance to be open-minded while fighting for my own rights… I did not choose a teaching career and I am not going to choose it now. It is not my job to educate anyone…

Maybe I miss something on the definition of mutual respect. Therefore, I went looking for it in the urban dictionary. Here is what they say :

In essence of respect is accepting a person for what they are and what they present themselves to be. Respect exists in a range from mild acceptance to total admiration. On the acceptance end of the spectrum, we decide that the values of the behavior of someone are within the wide range of what we find to be tolerable. We may not fully understand the person or their motivations, but people found a way to accommodate reason. This minimizes conflict.

So far so good, that’s what I thought. Respect yourself enough to walk away from things that no longer serve you and once you start doing that you will never stop. I present myself to be a certain way and if that offended you in the first place, why do you want to get to know me more ? By curiosity ?  Don’t let me get started here ! And, in what kind of world that my presentation as a simple Black woman could be offending anyone. Some people think that they are the only person on earth who can disrespect whoever they want. If you disrespect me, don’t expect me to be like Gandhi and have kind answers. And, the vicious circle goes on…

Now, they are all going to be politically correct while thinking you are not smart enough to see their true colors.

This is so sad…

Finally, in a healthy relationship, respect looks like this:

  1. Talking openly and honestly with each other
  2. Listening to each other
  3. Valuing each other’s feelings and needs
  4. Compromising
  5. Speaking kindly to and about each other
  6. Giving each other space
  7. Supporting each other’s interests, hobbies, careers, etc.
  8. Building each other up
  9. Honoring each other’s boundaries, no matter what

If you cannot do at least… the 4 first ones…boy bye !
